Denis Blount is an Associate Principal and leads the Acoustic, Audiovisual and Theater Consulting team in Arup’s Seattle office. Educated with a background in engineering and music, Denis is uniquely positioned at the intersection of acoustics, technology and architectural design. Throughout his career, Denis has worked closely with the highest profile architects, engineers and clients covering a wide range of building sectors. He has successfully led multidisciplinary teams, with a common goal of innovation, integration and sustainable design excellence.  

Denis’ acoustic consulting experience includes room acoustic design, measurement, modelling and analysis, airborne and structure-borne sound isolation, mechanical systems noise and vibration control, environmental noise assessments and specification of acoustic materials and methods. His innovative work in the SoundLab has advanced Arup’s auralization and visualization capabilities for clients and design teams.  

Since moving to the PNW, Denis has become a leading advocate for mass timber research and construction. He has presented mass timber research and project work at the 2017 and 2018 Mass Timber Conference in Portland, OR, Woodworks seminars across the US (Denver, Boston, Seattle), and is currently active with the AIA-Seattle Mass Timber Working Group. Denis believes that a shift to building with more renewable resources (such as wood) is an essential shift in the construction industry to help reduce our carbon footprint in the world.
