Named in honor of the beautiful glulam beams that define this speculative Class A office building, The Beam on Farmer differentiates itself with a distinctive mass timber interior and sustainable, healthy building design. The biophilic benefits of building with wood are key contributors to The Beam’s healthy building appeal since the building’s warm wood interior helps boost occupant well-being by using natural elements to create a clear connection with nature.

Designed to be ready for WELL building standard and LEED certifications, the building also meets criteria for The 9 Foundations of a Healthy Building from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The developer took full advantage of existing entitlement restrictions that allowed extra building height for the site by doubling up the glulam girders to achieve longer spans with shallower beams.

The expansive 36 x 30 column grid and 13-foot floor-to-exposed wood deck ceilings have contributed to the building’s unique appeal. Clean lines and tight-fit connections of the mass timber system add to the simple beauty of the space and to the project’s success as a desirable workplace address.
