The New Student Centre Building at Laurentian University in Ontario, Canada, features a sustainable design that helps the building harmonize with its surroundings. The design team, comprised of Yallowega Bélanger Salach Architecture and Gow Hastings Architects, took great care to incorporate wood, glass and metal to create a comfortable living room-like gathering spot where students connect with one another and nature. Spruce and pine glue-laminated wood is visible throughout, running the length of the atrium ceiling to the underside of the large canopy.
