Individuals Who Work Here:
Thoughtbarn is an architectural practice in Austin, Tx, committed to using design as a tool for conjuring new possibilities.  Our work spans from housing and workplaces, to retail and hospitality, to civic spaces and public art.  Across all projects we seek to craft spaces full of character, informed by a spirit of invention, a clarity of purpose and a robust social and environmental ethic.  We do our best work in collaboration with clients who value thoughtful design at multiple scales, from neighborhood context to material assemblies to how the details come together.

In collaboration with Delineate Studio (as TB/DS) we designed 901 East Sixth, the first commercial building in Texas to use CLT as part of a composite structural system.  The five-story hybrid steel and CLT building won a Regional Excellence Award in the 2020 Wood Design Awards.  We are collaborating with the same development team to design a similar scale building combining CLT and concrete.

Thoughtbarn is also currently working on a new mass timber district headquarters for the Texas Forest Service in East Texas (under construction as of 2023) as well as single family residences constructed from Mass Timber.
