Benton County Crisis Center
Corvallis, ORLocated in downtown Corvallis, Oregon, the 8,000-square-foot Benton County Crisis Center transforms a former gas station and used car lot into a welcoming, community-centered behavioral health facility. By placing the center in a highly visible location, the project helps normalize mental health services and reinforces the belief that care should be accessible, integrated, and embraced within everyday life.
The two-story building is designed to support a variety of client needs through an efficient floor plan that promotes safety, dignity, and comfort. Separate entries provide distinct pathways for voluntary clients and those arriving with law enforcement, while abundant natural light, warm materials, and gentle forms create a calming environment that departs from the institutional feel of traditional behavioral health facilities.
Mass Plywood Panels (MPP) are featured prominently in the building's stair and circulation spaces, bringing warmth and natural character to the interior. The exposed mass timber contributes to a welcoming atmosphere while demonstrating the versatility of regionally sourced wood products in healthcare and community-focused facilities.
By combining thoughtful design, community integration, and innovative mass timber construction, the Benton County Crisis Center creates a supportive environment that promotes healing, dignity, and connection.
