Brandon Municipal Airport
Brandon, MBThe Brandon Municipal Airport expansion was done to modernize passenger services and accommodate larger airline carriers while extending the life of the original 1970 terminal. The project was planned to maintain uninterrupted airport operations throughout construction, with the final transition to the new facility completed overnight without disrupting daily services. The expansion added new arrivals hall, enhanced baggage handling facilities, modernized check-in and baggage claim areas, as well as improved passenger circulation. The renovations to the existing terminal included energy efficiency upgrades, a dedicated security screening area, and a redesigned departure lounge. More than 95 percent of the original terminal was preserved, while new architectural elements were added to create seamless integration to the original and new addition. Features included black metal cladding and exposed 4 by 6 solid wood decking that can be seen on a majority of the airports roof. The result is a modern, efficient airport that shows character of the original facility while meeting the operational needs of today's air travel.
