Brooklyn Navy Yard, Smart Design Studio
Brooklyn, NYThis project is a 20,000-square-foot tenant fit-out for the strategic design company Smart Design, located on the top floor of Building 127 within the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard. The host building is a significant piece of industrial heritage, originally constructed in 1904 for the fabrication of wooden boats. The fit-out took place after the base building underwent a complete gut renovation, a project led by the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) as part of its wider mission to restore and reactivate the historic complex. The design for the new studio explicitly follows a "preservation and adaptive reuse approach," seeking to honor and integrate the building's original construction materials and industrial character.
