High Line Mass Timber Pedestrian Bridge
New York, NYThe High Line – Moynihan Connector transforms a vehicle-dominated section of Midtown West into a safe, elevated pedestrian connection between the High Line, Manhattan West, and Moynihan Train Hall. The project’s 260-foot Timber Bridge features a glulam Warren truss constructed from sustainably sourced Alaskan yellow cedar, using minimal ground connections to avoid disruption to the active roadways below. The exposed mass timber structure recalls Chelsea’s historic rail bridges while introducing a renewable, durable, and low-maintenance structural system that reduces embodied and operational carbon. As one of Manhattan’s first timber infrastructure applications, the bridge demonstrates the potential for mass timber to extend beyond conventional building construction into complex urban infrastructure.
