Hillside House
Telluride, COProgram:
Family mountain house set on steep difficult site. Distinct areas for sleeping, main living and guest, and activity areas.
Site: Challenging site with unique views to north and south, capturing distant and forground mountain views.
Solution: Stacked forms step up the hillside, lower level oriented for best access, main level oriented for maximizing north and south views, upper level oriented for privacy and access to exterior. foundation grade beams supported by micropiles and soil nails. Mass timber building is inserted in front of retaining systems. the upper level 'flies' out over the landscape to reduce site impacts.
Design elements: exposed architectural grade CLT ceilings throughout, glass and steel main stair.
Building assenbly: Austrian Mass timeber CLT roof, walls, floors, terraces, GLB, hybrid steel structure, german triple glazed facade and windows, R69 roof, R29 walls, R50 floors and terraces, vapor permeable membrane on all exterior surfaces, exterior applied continuous rigid insulation, wood rainscreen.
Building Climate systems: Air to water heat pumps, infloor linear fan coil units with silent fans for heating and cooling, additional ERV for ventilation.
