May Lee State Office Complex

Sacramento, CA

The May Lee State Office Complex in Sacramento, CA houses State of California employees across a 17.3-acre site, complete with its own parking structure. Uniting various agencies and departments within the State of California, this is the first development in the revitalized River District – an area of Sacramento that's being actively transformed from its industrial past into a modern, vibrant neighborhood adjacent to the downtown core. The campus features four mid-rise office buildings totaling 1,250,000 SF and a new 1,291 stall parking structure. The complex is the largest all-electric, zero carbon workplace campus in the U.S. The project was delivered using the design-build delivery method.

The Mass Timber scope includes the first-floor entry canopies and second floor pedestrian bridge decks. The Mass Timber elements were designed by ZGF & engineered by Thornton Tomasetti. The Mass Timber was manufactured by Structurlam (now Mercer) and installed by Kinsol Timber Systems. The total SF of the CLT decks entry canopies and bridge decks is approximately 2,200 SF.
