Redmond Airport Expansion

The Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) Terminal Expansion is a transformative project designed to accommodate the rapid growth of air travel in Central Oregon while creating a passenger experience rooted in the region’s unique landscape. The $180 million expansion adds more than 80,000 square feet of terminal space, including a new second-level concourse, seven boarding bridges, expanded holdrooms, and additional passenger amenities.

Inspired by Oregon’s high desert, the design features expansive curtainwall glazing that frames views of the Cascade Mountains, volcanic outcroppings, and surrounding plains. Exterior solar shade fins echo the silhouette of the Cascade Range while enhancing daylight and thermal performance.

Mass Plywood Panels (MPP), manufactured by Freres Engineered Wood, are incorporated into the roof and ceiling structure, bringing warmth and a distinctly Pacific Northwest character to the terminal. The exposed mass timber complements the expansive glazing and creates an inviting atmosphere while showcasing the potential of regionally sourced wood products in transportation infrastructure.

Designed with future growth in mind, the expansion provides a flexible framework for continued development while delivering a welcoming and memorable travel experience.
