The expanded Salvagnini customer resource campus features exposed CLT wall and roof systems, supported by glulam columns and an exterior finished concrete wall. The design team envisioned a space with clean, simple lines that focused attention on the equipment being displayed and demonstrated, as well as the natural beauty of the wood. This was achieved in part with a covered trench within the floor system for electric, gas and air lines required to operate the equipment. Natural light floods the interior through two full-height glass walls, windows at various heights, and a full-length skylight with perforated steel "reflector" panel that washes light across the exposed wood ceilings. Prospective customers are brought in through the training center and follow a long, narrow corridor to the showroom, where they are greeted by a 25-ft tall atrium and monumental wood staircase. The customer is led upstairs to an observation area, complete with a cafe, to view the vaunted Salvagnini machines—which are the real centerpiece of the project.
