Ullrhof Restaurant

Snowmass Village, CO

Ullrhof, a well-loved mid-mountain restaurant in Snowmass Village in Aspen, underwent a complete rebuild.

The original 1969 lodge - which seated 325 guests, was demolished and replaced with a new three-storey, 28,000-sq-ft all mass timber facility that now accommodates 725 people (450 indoors and 275 outdoors).

Aspen SkiCo roughly doubled footprint of the original, but embedded the new CLT and Gulam post-and-beam structure into the hillside to minimize its mass and scale. The building will be less than 65′ tall, adhering to the building restrictions in the town’s development plan.

Mass timber was chosen because of its aesthetic beauty but also because of the speed of construction. Because Snowmass doesn't open until the snow melts, the construction window is extremely tight between when the site can be accessed, and when the roads close for the season due to snow storms.
