The Hudson is a Type VA, 45,000-sf mixed-use building that includes offices, common meeting areas, and retail space. Designed to evoke a contemporary industrial feel, it includes a structural brick exterior, expansive glass entrances and exposed wood columns, beams and ceilings throughout the interior. The floor and roof system includes 2x4 and 2x6 nail-laminated timber (NLT) decking, offering a modern interpretation of traditional wood construction. In addition to aesthetics, the exposed wood ceilings absorb noise and help with acoustics, while the floors are topped with 3 1/2 in. of reinforced concrete for durability. As home to Mackenzie’s Vancouver office, The Hudson serves as an example of the firm’s emphasis on employee wellbeing. The extensive use of wood reflects a commitment to nature, sustainability, and creating comfortable spaces where people can thrive. The Hudson has earned Four Green Globes for Sustainable Interiors and is pending LEED Gold certification.
