Friendship Blow Pierce Elevator Core

Washington, DC

Friendship Blow Pierce Elementary & Middle School is a high-performing public charter school in Washington, D.C., operated by Friendship Public Charter School. Serving students from Pre-K through 8th grade, the school is known for its strong academic foundation, character-driven education, and commitment to preparing students for college and future success.

The elevator core was upgraded as part of the school's modernization effort to improve accessibility, extend the building's service life, and enhance structural performance while incorporating more sustainable construction practices. By using Mass Ply Panels (MPP) instead of conventional materials, the project was able to leverage a high-strength engineered wood product that offers excellent structural capacity, faster installation, and a lower carbon footprint. Mass Ply Panels are well suited for elevator shafts and core walls because they provide the rigidity and durability required for vertical structures while supporting the project's sustainability goals
