Port Stanley Fire Hall

Port Stanley, ON

The Port Stanley Fire Hall is Canada’s first Net-Zero energy fire station and a strong example of how mass timber can support the delivery of sustainable, high-performance civic infrastructure. Designed to post-disaster standards, the 8,300sq. ft. facility combines cross-laminated timber (CLT), Glulam, geothermal heating, and solar energy systems to create a low-carbon, energy-efficient emergency services building.

The project features a hybrid structural system utilizing CLT walls and roof panels alongside Glulam beams and columns. The prefabricated mass timber components enabled rapid, precise installation while supporting the project’s ambitious sustainability and performance goals.

The building also incorporates high-performance CLIPs (Cross-Laminated Insulated Panels) envelope system, improving thermal performance, airtightness, and construction efficiency. Mass timber was selected for both its structural capabilities and its contribution to reducing embodied carbon, helping the municipality advance its broader climate objectives.

Beyond sustainability, the new fire hall enhances emergency response capabilities for the growing Port Stanley community while demonstrating how mass timber and prefabrication can be successfully integrated into resilient, next-generation public infrastructure.
