Gervais Middle School

Gervais, OR

Gervais Middle School is currently undergoing a significant renovation and expansion to better serve its growing student population and evolving educational needs. A key component of this project is a new multipurpose building, scheduled to open for the upcoming school year. This addition will house new classrooms, a library, and a full-service kitchen—providing flexible, modern spaces that support both academic and community use.

Engineered wood products play a central role in the building’s design and construction. Selected for their consistency, structural performance, and efficiency, these materials allowed the project team to streamline construction while maintaining high-quality standards. Prefabricated raked wall panels were especially impactful, enabling rapid enclosure of the building and significantly reducing on-site labor and construction time.

The building’s structural system also features open-web wood trusses, which will remain exposed in the finished spaces. Beyond their structural function, these trusses contribute to the architectural expression of the interiors—creating a warm, natural aesthetic while emphasizing the building’s structural clarity. The openness of the system also allows for efficient integration of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

By leveraging engineered wood solutions, the Gervais Middle School project demonstrates how thoughtful material selection can accelerate construction schedules, enhance design outcomes, and create inviting learning environments. The result is a durable and versatile facility that will serve students, staff, and the broader community for years to come.
