Construction of a 5‐story mixed‐use building with commercial, residential, and amenity space on the first floor and residential units on the upper floors. The project also includes construction of a new 3-story apartment building on an adjacent site and renovations to the adjacent Garden Theater building.
The new 5-story building consists of 4 stories of wood framing on a 1-story steel-framed podium with precast concrete floor plank. The wood floor structures are a combination of conventional truss framing and cross-laminated timber (CLT). Exposed CLT ceilings are featured in the living spaces of the apartments along both street sides of the building. CLT will also be used for the roof structure over an open fifth floor terrace. The use of CLT on this project is believed to be one of the first in the city of Pittsburgh.
