The Southeast Aurora Recreation Center is an approximately 74,000-square-foot structure supporting athletic and community activities. The main level includes a gymnasium, fitness area, fieldhouse, pool areas, multipurpose meeting rooms, a catering kitchen, group exercise rooms, and a child watch area. The defining characteristic of the building is the “Canyon Roof” which features gracefully undulating glulam beams that seemingly float above a glass clerestory on all sides. The fitness area offers an expansive view of the mountains to the west with a two-story exterior curtain wall system supported by a combination of concrete, structural steel, and glulam beams. The upper level features a figure-eight style indoor walking/jogging track that weaves through the gym and fitness areas and is entirely hung from glulam beams above.
