Baun Residence
Colville, WANestled within a forested mountain landscape, this custom residence reflects a deep appreciation for the relationship between sustainable forestry and the built environment. Constructed using Douglas-fir and Western Larch mass timber, the home showcases the potential of renewable wood products, demonstrating how responsibly managed forests can contribute to resilient, high-performance buildings while supporting long-term forest stewardship. Exposed timber walls, floors, and roof elements celebrate the natural character of the material, creating warm, light-filled spaces that maintain a constant connection to the surrounding landscape.
Designed to support both the surrounding landscape and the people who live within it, the residence places all essential daily living functions on the main floor, allowing the home to remain functional and accessible over the long term while providing additional living space above. Expansive glazing and exposed structural timber frame views of the surrounding forest, reinforcing the connection between the home and its natural setting. The project demonstrates how mass timber transforms a renewable natural resource into a durable, contemporary home that reflects thoughtful design, long-term livability, and responsible land management.
