Fox Creek Quarry

Alta, WY

Perched on the elevated site of a century-old limestone quarry in Teton County, this mountain retreat is carefully integrated into its dramatic natural setting. Surrounded by native stone outcroppings and ridges of mature pines, the residence is designed to frame and celebrate the landscape while providing a modern, refined living experience.

Expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing blurs the boundary between indoors and out, filling the home with natural light and creating uninterrupted views of the rugged mountain environment. The open floor plan combines warm wood finishes, polished concrete, and thoughtfully crafted details to create a contemporary yet welcoming atmosphere. A central water feature serves as a focal point, bringing movement, sound, and a sense of tranquility to the home.

Mass Plywood Panels (MPP), manufactured by Freres Engineered Wood, play a key role in the home's structure and architectural expression. The exposed wood panels provide both structural performance and a warm interior finish, complementing the natural materials throughout the residence and honoring the site's historical heritage. By integrating mass timber into the design, the project showcases how innovative wood products can create high-performance homes that are deeply connected to their surroundings.

The result is a contemporary mountain residence that balances durability, craftsmanship, and a strong connection to place, demonstrating the versatility of mass timber in residential construction.
