K&E Excavating Office
Redmond, ORThe K&E Excavating Headquarters in Salem, Oregon, transforms an existing pre-engineered metal building into a modern office and operations hub that supports the company's continued growth. The renovation included the addition of approximately 6,000 square feet of second-floor office space within the existing building shell, creating a more efficient workplace while preserving the original structure. New windows introduce abundant natural light throughout the offices, while updated exterior cladding and a lodge-inspired entry enhance the building's appearance and create a welcoming environment for employees and visitors.
Mass Plywood Panels (MPP), manufactured by Freres Engineered Wood, were used to efficiently construct the new second-floor offices within the existing structure. The exposed mass timber system provided a practical solution for the vertical expansion while contributing warmth and character to the interior. The completed headquarters combines administrative offices, meeting spaces, and operational support areas, demonstrating how adaptive reuse and mass timber can work together to create high-performance commercial spaces.
