Environmental Education Building at Kreher Preserve and Nature Center

Auburn, AL

The Environmental Education Building is a new 4,000-square-foot mass timber early education facility housing classrooms, multi-purpose space, and a teacher’s lounge at Auburn University's Kreher Preserve and Nature Center (KPNC). The new building enabled the KPNC to expand its diverse educational offerings, including classes, workshops, events, programs, and school field trips. The building was constructed of cross-laminated timber (CLT) utilizing southern yellow pine to showcase its use as a sustainable alternative to traditional building materials. CLT’s lightweight and prefabricated attributes enable precision manufacturing and reduced on-site waste.
