Po Lam Meditation Vihara

Chilliwack, BC

The Po Lam Meditation Vihara redevelopment created a comprehensive Buddhist meditation center designed to accommodate both residential and day programs. The facility can accommodate up to 60 students for residential meditation courses and 100 students for day classes. The complex includes meditation halls, a Buddhist library, multi-purpose classrooms, dining facilities, and residential accommodations for monastics and participants.
The project represents a significant achievement in mass timber construction, demonstrating how engineered wood products can be effectively utilized in religious architecture. The use of glulam beams and traditional timber framing methods creates spaces that support contemplative practices while showcasing the structural and aesthetic possibilities of wood construction. The facility serves as both a place of worship and a center for Buddhist education and community activities in the Fraser Valley region.
