The Grizzly Paw Pub
Canmore, ABCompleted in 2013, the three-storey, 22-thousand-square-foot facility brings brewing, distilling, retail, dining and event spaces together under one roof on Old Canmore Road. The building’s structure was redesigned from steel to heavy timber to meet budget and aesthetic goals: nearly 90,000 board-feet of Douglas-fir glulam posts, beams and rod-braced frames form an exterior post-and-beam skeleton that supports wide roof overhangs and clerestory windows. Inside, the exposed timber frame, wood-decked roof and polished concrete mezzanine create a warm industrial atmosphere that fits Canmore’s Rockies context while allowing equipment loads and visitor circulation.
