Tukwila Library

Tukwila, WA

Municipal and community buildings are some of the most rewarding projects, and the Tukwila Library allowed us to introduce cross-laminated timber (CLT) to the city, complementing Perkins&Will's architectural vision.

The team designed an innovative solution to support the CLT ceiling by incorporating steel members to support the load. This design delivered on the client’s desire to have a completely open floor plan: There’s only one exposed interior column in the entire space, achieved via perimeter columns and custom trusses. Coordinated closely with the architect, the low-profile truss system is delicate and clean, designed with the architect’s aesthetic in mind.
