Royal Roads University John Horgan Campus
Victoria, BC
Located on Vancouver Island's west shore, Langford is one of Canada's fastest growing communities. To offer residents enhanced opportunities for post-secondary and specialized skills training, it's also the future home of a unique, collaborative educational campus.
The John Horgan Campus is the first-of-its-kind partnership between Royal Roads University, the University of Victoria, Camosun College, and the Justice Institute of British Columbia, and will also include programming space for School District No. 62.
The five-storey mass timber building will include flexible learning spaces and classrooms, student supports, and Indigenous gathering places. Pursuing LEED Gold and Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) v2 - Design certification, the project takes a whole life approach to minimize carbon emissions. The mass timber structure reduces embodied carbon to the maximum degree possible. A high-performance building envelope, combined with highly efficient fully electric building systems, including a large rooftop photovoltaics array reduces building energy use and operational emissions.
