The Mixed Use Office Garage
Umargam, GJThe Mixed Use Office Garage in Umbergaon, Gujarat, envisioned and owned by Mistry’s, is currently under construction and is shaping up to be one of the landmark mass timber projects in India. Designed by Ujjaval Parekh from Reasoning Instincts Architecture Studio and built by Artius, the project reflects a strong blend of innovation, functionality and a deep emotional connection with wood.
The structure features an 18-metre-span Glulam system with a height of 9 metres, making it one of the first large-scale mass timber frame structures of its kind in the country. The project houses a dedicated luxury car garage designed for the owner’s collection of around 15 to 18 premium cars, along with office spaces integrated within the same structure.
More than the scale, what makes this project special is the story behind it.
The Mistry family’s journey started with timber many years ago, and wood has always remained at the centre of their growth and identity. That emotional connection became the main reason behind choosing timber for this office and garage project. For them, this is not just a building, but a space that represents their roots, their journey and their close bond with nature.
The idea was to create a structure that feels warm, natural and honest in its material expression while also showcasing the possibilities of modern engineered wood construction in India. With exposed Glulam members and a clean structural language, the project brings together architecture, engineering and craftsmanship in a very seamless manner.
From factory production to on-site execution, Artius has played a key role in bringing this vision to life. As the project continues to take shape, it stands as an important example of how mass timber construction is gradually finding its place in the future of Indian architecture and construction.
