Dublab Studios
Los Angeles, CAThe dublab Studio headquarters reimagines the ground floor of a former Los Angeles Department of Water and Power building as a dynamic space for broadcasting, collaboration, and community. Designed around the concept of a "building within a building," the recording studio serves as the centerpiece of the interior, allowing staff, artists, and visitors to circulate around the broadcasting space while reinforcing dublab's mission as a creative hub.
Mass Plywood Panels (MPP), manufactured by Freres Engineered Wood, play a central role in the project's design and construction. The panels provide structural performance while reducing construction time compared to conventional framing and offer the potential for future disassembly and reuse. In addition to their structural function, the MPP walls enhance the studio's acoustic performance by limiting sound transmission and working alongside specialized interior finishes to create a controlled recording environment. The project demonstrates how mass timber can support both the technical and architectural demands of creative spaces.
