John A. Logan College West Lobby

Carterville, IL

The West Lobby addition at John A. Logan College reimagines a primary campus entry as a light-filled, student-centered gathering space that reinforces connection, visibility, and identity. Serving as both a new front door and a daily hub for student activity, the project prioritizes openness, warmth, and clarity of movement.

Mass timber plays a central role in achieving these goals. The structure incorporates exposed glulam beams with CLT decking, creating a legible and expressive system that defines the character of the space. By integrating structure and architecture, the design reduces the need for additional finish materials while elevating the overall spatial experience.
