Calgary Emergency Operations Centre

The Calgary Emergency Operations Centre is a highly resilient command facility designed to coordinate the city's response during major emergencies and disasters. Its distinctive low circular for is embedded into the surrounding parkland, most of the building is buried underground in order to preserve the parks natural environment. The building is designed to operate independently for up to 72 hours, incorporating high performance systems and durable construction support. Sustainability was integrated into both the structure and building systems, earning the facility LEED Gold certified. 
Glulam forms a primary part of the buildings structural system, with these wood elements defining the interior spaces and contributing to the centers pavilion character. The glulam is exposed on the interior of the building, bringing warmth and architectural design into the building.
