215 Wellesley St. - Affordable Housing

Toronto, ON

This 25,026 sq. ft., 8-storey, 48-unit mass timber supportive and transitional housing project for the Elizabeth Fry Society of Toronto, is a hybrid structure that features Glulam and 5-ply cross-laminated timber decking, point-supported on steel HSS columns.

Construction took place on a compact infill site in downtown Toronto, where prefabricated, modular mass timber was an ideal solution. Due to the narrow footprint, the team followed a strictly sequenced build approach, leaving one corner open as a delivery zone that was enclosed during the final stages.

The building’s units are designed to address the housing gap for women and gender diverse people who have experienced conflict with the law, incarceration, and the challenges of poverty. In addition to affordable, rent-geared-to-income housing, residents will have access to wraparound support services including counselling, community engagement, court assistance, and outreach programs.
