9th & High
Columbus, OH9th & High is a landmark mixed-use student housing development near The Ohio State University and is recognized as one of the tallest mass timber student housing projects in the United States. The project utilizes an innovative hybrid mass timber structural system featuring Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) floor panels and glulam framing over a concrete podium to deliver high-density urban housing with significantly reduced embodied carbon compared to traditional concrete or steel high-rise construction. The prefabricated timber system supports accelerated installation schedules, reduced site disruption, and enhanced sustainability performance while creating a warm, exposed wood aesthetic throughout key amenity and residential spaces. The development demonstrates how tall mass timber systems can successfully scale for large urban student housing applications while meeting aggressive sustainability and carbon reduction goals.
