Marpole Community Centre
Vancouver, BCThe Marpole Community Centre redevelopment project is an innovative and ambitious mass timber project replacing the 70-year-old Marpole-Oakridge Community Center in the Marpole neighborhood. This new green and accessible facility is designed to cater to the growing local population, offering state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor spaces that promote health and inclusivity.
This project is a complex hybrid building design utilizing concrete, structural steel, prefabricated wall panels, mass timber, and engineered wood connectors.
Key features of the new Marpole Community Center include:
Sustainable Design: The facility will operate with near-zero greenhouse gas emissions, thanks to its 100% electric design and Passive House certification. It will also achieve LEED™ Gold certification.
Mass Timber Construction: The structure will be made from mass timber, aiming for a 40% reduction in embodied carbon.
Highest Accessibility Standards: The Marpole Community Center will be the first City-owned community center to achieve Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) Gold, setting a new standard for accessibility in the country.
