The new Idaho Central Credit Union Arena at the University of Idaho is set to be a model for the use of timber for long-span sports facilities in North America, and a catalyst for the University of Idaho to showcase the rich history of forest products in the state. When completed in 2021, the 4,200-seat arena will be the new home for the Vandal's varsity basketball teams and a gathering place for a variety of school and community events.  The design drew inspiration from the unique undulating landscape of the Palouse combining modern mass timber elements including long-span king post trusses, CLT, DLT, curved glulams and wood exterior wall elements.  A key mission of the University is to celebrate the educational opportunities by utilizing the arena as a living, learning space for all.
