Colby College Student Housing
Waterville, MEColby College
CLT Wood Framing
GC: Landry French
Multiple student housing buildings for private college. Colby College is investing $50M in residential upgrades — a future-forward project delivering 217 single rooms for upperclassmen in Waterville, Maine.
This new residence hall combines Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) framing and innovative construction techniques to support the college’s long-term sustainability goals and student experience. CLT Panels used as the flooring system and stairwell shafts.
The project features architecturally complex curved roof rafters, a demanding structural element that required custom design and precise fabrication. Hybrid mass timber and light-frame systems—combined with non-standard architectural elements like curved roof rafters..
