Erik is passionate about solving unconventional problems for clients in innovative ways. He has a developed a broad level of expertise spanning multiple market sectors and building types with particular emphasis on integrated practice, sustainable design, and of-site construction techniques. His focus on the latter two topics has led him to be an early-adopter and advocate for mass timber construction techniques. He is currently leading a working group to standardize the approvals pathway for mass timber project in California. His experience also includes a strong background in advanced structural analysis, design, seismic retroft, and a dedication to constructibility.

Erik is a founding member and past chair of the Structural Engineers' Association of California's (SEAOC) Sustainable Design Committee where he co-authored multiple papers on the engineer's role in sustainability.  He continues to advocate for seismically resilient communities thorugh his roles serving on the California building Standard Commission's CALGreen Building Task Force, San Franciso Earthquake Safety Implementation Program, and US Green Building Council California (USGBC-CA) Advocacy Committee's Council of Experts.
