One level, 50' x 12' lap pool + 7' x 7' spa, sauna, bathroom, wet bar, exterior terrace with fire element
Site:
Steep and forested, with expansive views to the north over a meadering creek and lawn area.
Solution:
Create two distinct forms, 'fly' over the landscape, pool house situated to minimize steps from existing house lower level, guest house situated to maintain direct relationship with main level of exiting house. The pool house roof form influenced by a fallen leaf on the forest floor.
Design elements:
Guest house origami steel plate and open wood tread stair, zinc cladding and soffit/custom profile, zinc standing seam roof with integral edge gutter drainage systems. One piece stainless steel pool 'vessel', German millwork and doors, Channel Glass enclosed poolhouse bath. Exposed architectural grade CLT ceilings and walls throughout.
Building assembly: Austrian Mass Timber CLT roof, walls, floors, GLB, hybrid steel structure, German triple glazing for all window units and pool house facade, R69 roofs, R29 walls, R50 floors and decks, vapor permeable membrane on all exterior surfaces, exterior applied continuos rigid insulation, zinc rainscreen.
Building climate systems: Air to Water heat pumps, infloor linear fan coil units with silent fans for heating and cooling, additional ERV for ventilation, fully electric domestic water heating.
