Ascent

Milwaukee, WI

At 25 stories (284'), Ascent set the world record as the tallest mass timber hybrid building.  19 stories of mass timber, housing 259 apartments, sit above six stories of concrete parking and ground level retail. The 273,000-square feet of mass timber, which is ~50% exposed, offer all residents incomporable aesthetics with exposed wood columns, beams, and ceilings. The project received a federal wood innovation grant, with all of the research being released to the public domain to aid in the development of future mass timber buildings.

See the business case study for this project. The case study series aims to fill a gap in available information related to the financial performance of U.S. properties constructed with mass timber structural systems in buildings across various product sub-types. Using transparent quantitative data, each of the 10 case studies analyzes how mass timber has created value and provides a qualitative overview of successes, challenges, and lessons learned from the developer/owner perspective.
